On Saturday, November 2nd, the State Cross Country meet was held at Fort Dodge. This meet marks the end of the high school careers of four of the seven varsity runners. These runners include Derrick Thompson, Jacob Reelfs, Jacob Hrasky, and Jacob Keay, as well as the two alternates Max Hayes, and Quinn Navara. This also marked the end of the career for their Coach: Dan Schleisman. This was an exciting season for the boys’ team, with two team wins and the first state qualification since 2000.
Tori Castle finished well, placing 26th overall. “I didn’t feel my greatest during the race, I felt really tight and I don’t think I was warmed up enough because I was still pretty cold while I was running.” Tori doesn’t know whether she wants to continue running in college, but she said that she will probably continue running for fun.
As a team, the boys finished in a tie for 14th, but their sixth runner was beaten by 1 place, putting them 15th overall. Cole Dooley led the boys with a personal best time, placing 44th. “I felt really sore but I was just pushing through it because I wanted to perform well for the team, during the race I really tried to soak up the experience because I am only going to get to go to state a couple times and I was grateful to get there.” He was followed by Jacob Reelfs placing 89th. Derrick Thompson placed 96th, Ryan Konz 99th, Mason Yochum 119th, Jacob Keay 123rd, and Jacob Hrasky 127th.
This has been one of the best seasons for cross country in a long time and it’s exciting to see where the team will stand next year.
