On Saturday, October 12th, the Cardinal Vanguard won the 2A division at the Loess Hills Marching Festival at Glenwood.  This was the band’s first competition this season because the Clarinda Marching festival was cancelled. The band director, Mr. Schoening, said this about their performance:

I thought as a whole, we played and marched pretty well for our first contest.  Losing the Clarinda Festival because of the weather kind of hurt us, since we didn’t have that experience to build on for the Glenwood show.  We learned a lot from listening to the recordings and watching the video to help us get ready for this week’s contests.”

There were ten total bands that attended the competition.  Treynor placed first in the 2A class against four other bands with a score of 85.0.

The band will perform twice on Saturday, once at the State Marching Festival at Glenwood and once at the Mid Iowa Band Championships at Ankeny.  Mr. Schoening said this about the preparation for these performances:

For our next contests, we are making a few adjustments to the music to balance and blend better as an ensemble.  We are also cleaning up a lot of drill moves to make the whole show smoother.”
