Summer Success: Cardinal Softball and Baseball

All great things must come to an end at some point. Both the Baseball and Softball teams had great seasons even though they didn’t end how we wanted too. The Softball team returned to the state tournament for the first time in 5 years. The Baseball team was upset by the Eagles of Underwood in the District 15 Final at Cardinal Field here in Treynor. Cardinal Softball ended their season with a record of 31 wins and 4 losses. While Cardinal Baseball ended their season with a record of 27 wins and 11 losses.

The Softball team graduated 7 seniors, while the Baseball team only graduated 4. So that means that there will be a lot of talent returning for next season.

Out of all the returning seniors, they all have accomplished most of their goals from last season. Outfielder Will Halverson said “ Yes, I accomplished my goals. I tried my best to not worry about my stats when I was playing the game, and tried to become a better friend and teammate to the underclassman. I made a lot of new friendships.”

As teams both Baseball and Softball did accomplish some of their goals. “Our team’s greatest accomplishment this season was making it to the State Tournament.” said Infielder Tori Castle.

“Our greatest accomplishment was winning the Western Iowa Conference tournament and regular season,” said Infielder and Pitcher Nate McCombs.

“Our greatest accomplishment was definitely making it to state and also ending our season on a win,” said Outfielder Kennedy Elwood.
