On Thursday, April 25 and Saturday, April 27, several boys’ and girls’ track athletes participated in their respective events at the Drake Relays.

Senior Jerry Jorgenson ran in two events.  He placed seventh in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 9:33.29, which broke his own school record.  He also placed sixth in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:26.40.

“Going in, my goal was to compete as hard as I could and I think that showed,” Jorgenson said, “I also ran personal-best times in both races, so I can’t be disappointed with that.”

The girls’ team qualified their 4×100 meter relay and 4×400 meter relay.  The 4×100 relay consisted of sophomore Mia Shipley, seniors Maddie Shipley, Noel James, and Megan Carley which placed 50th.  Freshman Rachel Kinsella, Maddie Shipley, James, and Carley ran in the 4×400. The relay placed 15th in a time of 4:05.42.

“I’m really excited to see what we can do at state in the 4×400,” Carley said, “We are hoping to go under four minutes.”

Junior Jack Tiarks placed ninth in the high jump with a jump of 6’3.

“This was my second year competing at Drake,” Tiarks said, “The conditions were tough to compete in, since it was cold and rainy.”

The teams will compete again on Tuesday, April 30, at Riverside for their conference meet.
